Attending a modern ballet performance in the incre

Attending a modern ballet performance in the incredible Palais Garnier opera house was an extraordinary experience. I wish I could reach my arms out wide and scoop up the experience and share it with everyone.

In the second act, Blake Works 1, choreographer William Forsyth mixed classical ballet with fast modern moves. The music was by artist James Blake. I hadn’t heard of him before - he sounds similar to Leon Bridges and Bon Iver. The dancers wore traditional ballet costumes, in light blue, with typical pale pink tights and toe shoes. The female dances looked strong, less fragile. The male dancers looked like the marble statues throughout Paris.

The third act, Impasse, by choreographer Johan Inger started out quiet and serious, then transformed into something that reminded me of Cirque du Soleil. The music was playful jazz by Ibrahim Maalouf.

Even the lighting was cool - traditional at first, transitioning into something that looked like street lighting and then Bob Fosse spotlighting.

It was a perfect way to end our visit to Paris. I’m so happy we thought to get tickets four months ago. Parfait! Très magnifique!

Strolling through the Shakespeare and Company book

Strolling through the Shakespeare and Company bookstore on a chilly autumn morning, exploring every tiny room, I could have stayed there for days soaking up the inspiration written on the walls, and in the books -some familiar some new to me, and in the photographs on the walls.

Speaking of photographs, I wanted so badly to take photos of the inside of this enchanting shop I’ve been to before. I respected the rules in order to keep it magical for others to discover.
